Alexa's Dream! From time to time, J-Walkers for the Cure stretches their boundaries and reaches out to help a different cause. Alexa is a 10 year old vibrant little girl who lives in Florida. She was born with Vaters Syndrome, which is not well known. There are very few children worldwide with the syndrome. Because each child has a unique set of anomalies, the chance of survival depends on the organs involved. A few days after birth Alexa showed signs of blood in the stool, severe stomach reflux, intestinal spasms, and a large hump on her tiny back. Within 3 months it was discovered that Alexa had: 1. a hole in her heart 2. no hip ball or formed hip socket (she spent over 6 months in a body cast) at 1 year old 3. 1 kidney 4. deformed, missing and fused ribs (Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome) 5. Deformed and missing spinal vertebrae 6. Severe Scoliosis (so progressive her spine till tries to crush her heart and lung) This is the struggle to keep her alive. 7. Spina Bifida came later as the spine nerves became exposed and she had a difficult time walking 8. A spinal tumor. To date, Alexa has had 26 spinal surgeries to keep her alive. She goes to school and is a happy little girl. The problem is her Mom is a single Mom who gets no child support and has illnesses of her own. We are asking you to visit Alexa's website and consider giving generously to this most worthy cause. Please visit www.alexasdream.com for all the details. We know you will be moved by Alexa's story and hope you can find it in your heart to give what you can. Thank you. |
